I am working on an adjustable cleaning device that will clean the pontoons on both regular pontoon boats and tri-toons. It will be reasonably priced, hopefully. Getting a "patent pending" status for the apparatus. This is for all the folks that want to clean their own pontoons, don't have a trailer, and normally leave their boats in the water or dry store them.
My Sylvan gets 37 MPH with the pontoons clean and only 28 when covered in algae. I may be wrong, but it probably will give me about 30% savings on gas mileage depending on speed. Also, this will be mostly a "one time" cost and avoid taking the boat to a marina and paying the $100 to $150 for them to lift it out and clean it every so often. Sound like it may have a future?

Wish me luck--Gotcha1

Re: In-water pontoon cleaning device

This may have applicability to some folks. I already have something that does that. It's called a scotch-brite pad and a swim. When we are going to be swimming anyway (which is most of the time we are on the boat) part of teh first swim is a toon scrub-down.

Make sure your gadget is not too expensive as a cheap alternative (scotch-brite) already exists. The convenience of your method MUST outweight the cost advantages of my method in order for it to be marketable. KWIM?

Re: In-water pontoon cleaning device

Thanks, John. I realize everyone has different needs and remedies. I guess I wonder how long and how many people are involved cleaning your pontoons with Scotch Brite. I do know that my wife and I couldn't feasibly do it in any reasonable time. Also, our boat is in the water for 8 months. Some of the months are way too cold to be swimming. With a simple attachment, the pontoons can be cleaned from inside the boat. BTW, how large are the Scotch Brite pads you are using? Also, most pontoons are round, not like the Manitou's. It is practically impossible to clean the middle pontoon because of the small space between them. But, I really appreciate the feedback. Gonna try the Scotch Brite pads on some smaller outside areas of the pontoon.
On our lake, cleaning the pontoons is a major endeavor for most of the residents.
Thanks and BTW, what is the KWIM?
