I could really use your help/advise.
I have a 2001 200HP Merc (no EFI) with one bad cylinder. Compression test showed that the 5 other cylinders were perfect at 125pds. The bad cylinder tested at 60pds.

*How it got this way: Motor was run without oil (oil line seperated - alarm did not sound)

*Motor still ran pretty well afterwards (did not seize)

I have have started disassembly of the powerhead. Removal of the Head cover revealed that the bad cylinder had a cracked piston and ring.
To my eyes it seems the cylinder walls are in remarkably good shape. It almost looks like there may be some rub off from the rings on one spot of the cylinder wall.

Question #1
I still need to access the crank shaft. Is it possible to seperate the block to gain access to the crank shaft by pulling out the bolts and NOT removing the oil tank and carbs and such as it says to do in the manual (I assume they are doing a complete overhaul - which I don't imagine I need to do) It looks like the front side of the block can be seperated as one complete unit.

Question #2
This engine "was" like new. Until "it" happened.
Since all the other cylinders tested perfect, is it necessary to change the rings on all pistons (or all pistons..).
Or do you think I would be alright with the one.

Question #3
The is a small chunk missing from the edge of the bad piston. Should I be worried about where this piece or pieces went?
Or should I assume it was tossed safely out the exhaust port. Remember, the boat was run at 53mph after the no oil situation was fixed.

Question #4
Should I be worried about the connecting rod possibly being bent? Or other damage?

Please post, or email me >> goodsir1976@aol.com
Your input would be appreciated I can finish this project and get my boat in motion again.
If anyone wants to see pics I have digitals of the entire dissasembly, and the bad piston. I can email them.
