In or through the hull transducer in a whaler?

Has anyone installed a in the hull or through the hull transducer for a depth/fish finder in a Boston Whaler? or in a transom transducer the only game in town for a whaler?

I don't have the answer, but, I have the same question. I have, where I boat, more need for a depth finder than a fish finder. They seem to be sold as a unit.
I really don't want to punch any holes through my hull. What's the best way to get this done?

I know someone knows. If I can mount a unit near the console it would be better then feeding to the transom.
