I have a 2004 Yamaha carb. 2 stroke with a problem that a local dealer can't fix. Does any body know of a mechanic in the bergen or hudson county area of New Jersey? Any help would be appreciated.

Why don't you just tell us about the problem, prolineez?

You have the attention of many of the best Yammy Techs in the world right here.

Re: In need of mechanic

The motor takes about 10-15 attempts to start, sometimes more. Once it starts you can turn it off and try to restart and it fires up instsantly. I've had this problem since April, took it to a dealer and he rebuilt the carbs., charged me $300 and it still doesn't start. The motor was new last year and it has been run and winterized properly.

Just my thoughts -

I would not expect a carb cleaning after 1 year. Were the carbs really cruddy?
Is the gas from last year? treated with stabilizer? Do you have a fuel/water seperator?

Have you checked your fuel line, all fuel hose connections and priming bulb? There could be an air leak. After the 9th attempt, the fuel pump has probably sucked all the air out of the line and the boat runs normally.

Hope this helps.

Rodbolt,
I have talked to you about this problem about 4 weeks ago. I don't know if you remember but you gave me one piece of advice that seemed to solve the problem. You advised blocking off the holes in the choke plates. I put tape over the holes and it started on second try. How can I permanently block the holes?

It's a 2004 Yamaha 2 stroke carb. motor. Bought new April 2005. Since new it was a little hard to start 5-7 trys. After a proper winterizing I started it up and now it takes 10-20 times to start. I believe the problem was there since new.

Does the engine have a model number, or at least some indication of what HP it is?

There are a lot of different size 2004 2 stroke Yamahas and the problem could be different for different engines.
