In line fuel filter?

Should I install a 40 micron filter in the hose between my portable tank and engine? If so, which side of the primer ball should it be put on?

The Yamaha rep told me to install a 40 micron filter on my small four stroke outboard, (2001 9.9 high thrust) - but I don't understand why, if it is so important, the manufacturer doesn't make the hose that way - only costs about 2 bucks?

My main hesitation is a worry about a reduction in fuel pressure.

Any advice appreciated.

Gary

You should not only install a 40 micron filter, it should be a water seperator as well.

install the primer after the filter. prime the filter before you install it every time you change it. the reason is the small nature of the jetting in this carb. a hair will effect the way it runs.
