Hey I have an 8hp trolling motor but it goes slower than most 7.5hp motors. It runs smooth but I just can't seem to get any speed from it. Does anyone have any sugestions on how to increase the speed, or on what kind of prop I should look into?
-thanks in advance

Re: Improving motor performance

Need more info, asdfgh.

What boat is your engine on? What make, model and year is your engine?

What causes you to say it is slower than most 7.5s? How are you measuring this?

In general, your speed is probably limited by the displacement speed of your hull. Making it go faster would require an engine capable of planing it.

The health of your engine can usually be closely determined by measuring the rpm at WOT and inspecting the spark plugs.

Optimum performance can be achieved by careful tune up according to the service manual, thorough cleaning of the boat hull and fine tuning of the mounting position.

Let us know what you have. :)
