Re: important question on my new boat

If I were you I'd trade that trailer in for one that's galvanized. Nothing takes away from a boats appearance like a rusty trailer.

If you thoroughly wash down your trailer immediately after it's been in saltwater, and you keep it religiously waxed, you can prolong it's life and help minimize (to a point) how quickly and badly it rusts. But rust it will! Most trailers are of an open channel contruction. The galvanized coating protects not only the exterior but the interior channel surfaces as well. On the other hand, paint only protects the exterior...leaving the interior to rust like crazy.

King trailers (manufactured in Washington State) are excellent galvanized trailers...that would be the way I'd go.

Walt

PS Congrats on your new boat! What make and model??

I should also add that it's advisable to thoroughly rinse with fresh water galvanized trailers too after they've been exposed to salt water. A little preventative maintenance can go a long way!

Walt
