Re: impeller

What most folks in here mean when they describe the "impeller" is one component of the water pump that is housed in the outdrive. This pump pushes seawater up to your engine's water pump...or to a heat exchanger...depending on what type cooling system you have (fresh water or closed). Your engine's water pump also has an impeller...but again...usually when folks talk about the "impeller"...they are referring to the outdrive's water pump.

What model of outdrive is your OMC? Cobra or Stringer (Stinger?...800??) I'm not too familiar with OMC, but I'm sure if you have questions...some one in here can help ya out if they knew what model you have.

Walt

Walt

Re: impeller

Yes you have an impeller. On the rear of your upper gear case is a curved triangular cover with 3 bolts in it. Remove those 3 bolts and you will find the impeller housing that can be removed with 2 or 3 more bolts. Once the housing is off you will see a rubber piece shaped like a donut with fins. That is your impeller.

Re: impeller

no i do not think it is to big, they do rub on the housing.for this reason do not run your outdrive without a water supply.

Re: impeller

The impeller is suposed to be tight in there. take it to the parts counter and have them give you an exact relacement. as a quik tip- don't throw the old one out. Keep it on board as an emergency.
