Im not sure if this the right place to post this. But I my self is going to replace the impeller/water pump in my Evinrude 1972 9.5 for the first time, as soon as the weather gets a little better. I check this sight every day for info. Because of all of you, I shouldnt have a problem. But if I do, I know where to look for help.
But I notice it seems like everyday, someone has the same type or kind of question or problem on this topic. There are some very good answers if you search the FAQs. But not all of the anwsers. Just thought there should be a FAQ on the cooling system. Basic info, trouble shoot, when to check/replace, etc... Just like the thread on HOW TO WAKEN A SLEEPING OUT BOARD. For those who havent looked at that yet. you need to.
This is a great sight and all of you are very helpfull and thank you for that. when I get to my out board. I plan on taping it to post so hopefully I can help the next person. Thanks again.

Patrick.

Re: impeller/water pump

That will be a fairly straightforward job on the 9.5, provided the motor has had some regular maintenance over the last 36+/- years. Four bolts hold the gearcase to the midsection, one bolt releases the shift rod connector (see the thumbnail) , and 4 bolts release the water pump housing.

The impeller slides on the driveshaft and is held in place by a pin.

The parts manual will help you to visualize the project: http://epc.brp.com/default.aspx?brands=ej&lang=e
