As mentioned in a few other posts, I recently bought a 99 Four Winns with the VP 4.3 GLPWTR and SX outdrive. The boat looked to be perfectly maintained, BUT the impeller appears to have NEVER been replaced as all but four of the vanes were intact when I replaced it. I took the thermostat housing apart and found one vane and three other pieces of the impeller slowing the flow from the thermostat. I've got a replacement thermostat, gasket and o-ring on order and they'll be here end of the week.
Now for the money shot... Once I put the thermostat in and put everything back together, what should I be looking for as telltale signs that other pieces of the impeller that worked their way further downstream are causing issues?
Before tearing down the thermostat housing, when I put the muffs on and started the engine on the hose, exhaust water was running out the bottom of the transom rather than out of the prop. Is this a big concern? I'm thinking this is likely from the exhaust bellows which is probably overdue to be replaced.
Anyway, any feedback would certainly be appreciated.
Thanks.
Jef
