so my impeller was replaced 6/15 when i bought my boat. it was replaced by a merc shop so i assume they used merc products. i have the outdrive off already. should i replace the impeller? it runs fine and temps stay under 160. i was told to replace it every 2 years?

EDIT: forgot, its a 1986 alpha 1 gen 1. if i do replace it is there a complete kit with all gaskets? engine # is 0A593759

Should be fine for another year unless you have over 100 hours on it, or ran it dry. IMHO

I would say you are fine. What is the reason for pulling the drive?

i am going to repaint it before spring and if need be then change the impeller. no other reason. just figured i could save time painting if i had it at home here for the winter

Easy to inspect and choose use or replace. Eyes on is more important than scheduled replacement, imho. The reason for the scheduled replacement is too many got ignored for years and the rubber gets hard and takes a set.

I am wish Terry on that. If you get in far enough to inspect you might as well replace. I still think you are fine though.

i may just leave it for this year then. i have enough other work to do before splash day and it was fine last year.

my list:
new camper top
new alternator
new battery charger
new belts
replace thermostat
remove blue stripe above rubrail (it is cracked and looks horrible)
buff and wax entire boat

and probably a few more things i am forgetting

I would skip the thermostat unless there is a reason. They rarely fail and most will last the lifetime of an engine. If the alternator isn't having issues I would leave it alone too.

Yeah, I'll bet that the vast majority of thermostat replacements are due to worn out impellers, just like the coils replaced because of bad points ;)
