I have a 1989 mercury 9.9, And I trying to remove the lower unit to replace the impeller. I cannot see where to disconnect the shift rod. I have all three bolts out and the lower unit drops down about an 1 1/2 inches, but no where do I see how or where to disconnect it.<br />Thanks for any and all help.

Re: Impeller replacement

If your motor has a plastic plug on the starboard side, have you loosened the bolt (don't remove it) behind the plug while the shifter is in the reverse position? And welcome to the board........

email me and I can send you the service manual instructions or check your local library if you don't have a manual.
