I have a 95 Brovo III Mercury outdrive on a 7.4 liter. It started to over heat after about a few hours use. I noticed it when the sound alarm went off. Temp. went up and I shut the boat off, noticed it when boat was at idle. I restarted and put boat on plane and the temp went back to 180 until I dropped the boat off plane. I'm thinking that the impeller went bad. The boat has almost 200 hours. Is the impeller a hard do-it yourself change. Could use any help on this. Thanks for the help- Steve

Re: Impeller replacement

95 Crownline,

I'm no expert, as I just bought my first boat 3 weekes ago. However, I had an overheating problem too. I replaced the impellar and thermostat myself. Both were very easy to replace, at least on my engine. Unfortunately, replacing these parts did me no good. The cause of my problem turned out to be a dirt dobbers nest inside my oil cooler that was blocking the flow of cooling water.

They say that you should replace the impeller every year whether it needs it or not. However, I'm inclined to think it's not your impeller since it doesn't overheat at high speed. Then again, I'm no expert. But, as far as chaning your impeller yourself, it shouldn't be too hard.
