Impeller r/r

I've just replaced the impeller on my Tohatsu 5hp,and I can't get the shaft to slide up into the bottom of the powerhead. It gets to within 1.5 to 2 inchs and stops. What am I doing wrong?

Have someone move then flywheel a little while you get LU in place. The splines on driveshaft need to engage the female complement in the crankshaft.

Make sure you move the flywheel in correct rotation with the engine.

Try rotating the prop as you move the lower unit up. You can also turn the flywheel but make sure your plug wires are pulled
