Re: Impeller Question

Someone will be along to confirm or deny this, but I'm pretty sure you have a front crank mounted raw waterpump. In or out of the bath - doesn't matter.

Special tools - maybe

Manual - definetly

Re: Impeller Question

Your right i do a have front crank mounted raw waterpump.I think what i am concerned about is the motor is mounted quite low down in the boat
(crownline 250cr)and worried that water will be able to enter while doing the impellor.
Manual is on order,many thanks.

Re: Impeller Question

Just stick a cork or socket (with a shorty extension on the inside to plug the square hole in the socket) in the water line. You might take a brief shower, but the pressure isn't that high. As soon as you lift the hose above the waterline, flow will stop.
Maybe you want to lift the boat and install a raw water shutoff.... Not sure about UK, but my insurance company made me put one on as it was reported by the surveyor that i didn't have a shutoff when I had the boat surveyed prior to purchase... I never got a straight answer about whether Canadian coast gaurd requires it.

I only started the boat once with it shut... I knew that was going to happen and that's why i didn't want one but...

Re: Impeller Question

Not sure which engine you have yet, the serial number is short 1 number, and a 93 engine didn't have that type pump. But since you have the Johnson pump, I'll assume (Danger, Danger) you have a 570, a 571 or 572.

A little water will get into the boat when you remove the hose and plug it, but your bilge pump will take care of that with no problem.
For that matter, stuffing a rag in the hose would slow it down enough to change the impeller.

Re: Impeller Question

Just one special tool that I know of that will help you with your engine, it's part number 7732736 and is called a service manual.
