You need to remove a hitch pin on the bell crank that goes under the carburetors.----Requires a pair of pliers.----Then that lever ( bell crank ) is pushed to the port side and rotated to release the shift rod.----No other tools or hammer required to release the shift rod.

It is a HITCH pin that is removed.-----Not a cotter pin.-----Bell crank is pushed to port side of motor.----Rotated either to forward or reverse direction to release the shift rod.----Do not turn the shift rod during this work.

It is Item #17 part #0330941 on the STARBOARD side of the motor.----On that rod ( L-shaped ) lever under the bottom carburetor.----Observe and work carefully.

It looks like the bolt is facing the motor head and looks like the carbs will have to come off it's in the center of the motor head

find the upper part of the shift rod and disconnect this end from whatever is holding it place .(look around the bottom of the Ph. it is there) this will allow you to slide the GC down after all the bolts are out ! .

see 17 lynch pin that hold the shift rod tilt assembly. take it apart to free up #47 shift rod from parts 114 and 45
