I havent changed water pump in ten years just the impeller. Is this a must or if in good shape just impeller? does the evinrude kit come with all the seals or do i have to purchase seperately? 1990 70 hp evinrude. fresh water only.

It is probably a good idea to replace everything. The wear plate and stainless cup do wear out and most seals are going to be pretty sketchy after that long. The actual water pump housing may be okay.

I agree with open it up and see what you need. The stainless liners will last a long time, and if they are still good, just the impeller will be just fine. Now, there is an exception to this. If you can't remember how it all went till you can order and get the parts, well....

I just started working on a 72 johnson 9.5 that I bought a few months back. The guy I bought it from said he put in a new impeller. Well, after getting it running. It wasnt spitting water like it should. So I droped the lower (among other things) And checked out the water pump. Yep, the impeller looked new but the housing and wear plate are shot. On new motors to me, I always replace the whole thing. Oh yea, dont use lock tight when putting it back together. I broke the heads off of two screws trying to get the housing off.
