The iboats forum moderators are excited to announce that at this time it appears the iboats forums posting pictures function is working once again. Though we cannot promise for how long, we're hoping for indefinitely.
Hi I wonder if anyone could tell me where the impeller is on a Volvo Penta SX-M?
The 3.0 engine has it's own fresh water cooling.
Is it possible the impeller is mounted on the engine?
Go to page one to look for diagrams, and page two of post to see actual pictures of unit and disassembled unit.
This post talks about the bracket-mounted, belt-driven water pump and shows the impeller on a '99 3.0 4 cylinder.
There is no impeller in the drive unit.
There are other versions with the main water pump/impeller mounter on the front of the engine, but most are the bracket mounted type.
it is on the front of the crank pulley. there are two hoses attached to it. Remove the 4x 5/16 bolts and remove impeller. If doing this IN the water, disconnect intake hose and secure it up high otherwise you will take on water.
Thanks guys for the responses.
I am starting to understand the system.
One other question I have - I see the line going into the heat exchanger from the transom, and a line going out as shown on the picture - this line goes into the manifold but then where does it go? I don't see a line going back to the transom?
