Impeller on 2007 5.0

I am fairly new to boat ownership and currently have a chapparal with a volvo penta 5.0. It has been serviced yearly at the shop, but I would like to take over the maintenance myself. I was told that the impeller should be changed yearly. Can you confirm this for me? Also, is the impeller a fairly simple, straightforward job or are there tricks/common problems I need to be aware of.

There is one heck of a lot more to maintenance than changing the engine oil and filter, and gear lube in the drive.
You don't really give any info on what engine you have (carbed or efi) or what drive you have, but here is a maintenance schedule for a carbed engine. Should give you an idea of what it takes to keep your engine and drive happy.
