I have a 91 Merc xr-4 150, seems like I have
to change the impeller each year. The temp
on the engine reaches over 230 degrees!
After changing out the impeller the temp returns
to the normal temp. I have a friend with a Merc 200 that has never changed out his impeller after some 4 or 5 years. What could be causing this or
is their something else involved?
Any idea's....

If the impeller housing inside is worn/rough it might kill the impeller flaps.

Do you hit sand a lot when sailing? Sand or dirt in the water gets into the cooling system and may blast the pump.
