I dropped the lower unit and installed the impeller, got the unit back in place and everything seemed OK. Now the gear shift won't actuate. I saw in an old forum that I should have been smart enough to disconnect the shift rod first. Can I just disconnect it now and re-position so it functions or should I drop the unit, dis-connect and start over? And oh yeah, how do I disconnect it? A detailed instruction would be greatly appreciated. RD

It's usually done with the selector and the lower unit both in reverse. Not exactly sure why. All it takes is persistence and it'll eventually line up.

I've always put both in forward gear and never had a problem.

Thanks guys. Before I got your replies I did drop the unit and put put both the drive and the shifter in forward. The thing sshifts into forward and neutral no problem but it is shaky about going into reverse. I ran it in a barrel for 15 minutes and got to shift in and out of reverse a few times and then it just would not shift to rev. any more. I shut it down, dragged it out of the barrel turned the prop by hand a few degrees and shifted into rev. no problem. I don't know whether you can adjest it or not but I know I don't want to pull up to the dock and not be able to get into reverse. What do you think?

RDB
