Impellar Questions, what and where is it???

Sorry for the dumb question, been reading postings<br />about these famous Impellars. I assume its for the cooling system.. Where is it and what is it? A buddy of mine said this gadget should be replaced every 3 or 4 years is this true?<br /><br />Thanks!!!

Yep, It's a little rubber waterpump Impeller....<br />Depending on What outdrive you've got, They're Usually mounted In the Lower unit.....<br />I change mine every Other Year.....

Thanks..Its a Mercruiser Alpha1<br />How come the Dealer I bought the boat from did not tell me this? What else needs to be replaced?<br />Beside plugs, oil, gear lube filters and impellers?

Well if it's very new boat you probbly have a Gen II leg, then in that case the have the high volume/low pressure pump and you can go two years on that impeller.If you have a older pre-Gen II leg you change it once a year.<br />Did the dealer give you all you all paper work when boat the boat ? In the owners manual it gives you a maintenance schedule.
