Looking at a 1990 IMP 235 Europa Cuddy. Looks nice but I don't know anything about IMP. Are they any good?

Re: IMP Boats any good?

That is allot of boat.

Welcome to iboats.

Without knowing any details no one can honestly say if they are good or not. The company went out of business 10 years ago :(

ANY boat might be perfect and then again ANY boat may be trash depending on how it has been treated, stored and maintained. We really need more info to help out properly.

The value/quality of any boat more than 10 years old is more dependent on the care it was given than the initial build quality. A babied 10-year-old Bayliner may be worth more than an abused 10-year-old Sea Ray.

Re: IMP Boats any good?

As stated before the IMP line of boats, as with any 20+ year old boat, will be a crap shoot. I have a 1984 IMP Y215SC which I bought as a retirement project. $1500.oo initial purchase and a total of $7000.oo and 2 1/2 years later I have a very sound, strong offshore boat. She's not pretty on the outside but I'm secure in the knowledge that this boat is safe for most water conditions. 2 weeks ago I took her to Catalina Island (3+ hours of hard running) fishing and the boat preformed flawlessly. Now if you are not into COMPLETE restoration of a boat this age I would not recommend this to a beginner. The construction was made up of balsa core material which is end cut balsa wood cut to 1/4" and glassed to the inside of the hull. New, this type of construction is light and strong. Problem is once the water enters the hull (and it will) this material will becomes water logged and very heavy. The deck is a fiberglass tub affair which just drops in as one big single deck piece. There are no stringers in this type of construction. The transom was mush along with the engine mounts. I completely removed every piece down to the bare hull. Replaced the transom, added stringers and storage under the deck. The only piece not R&R'd was the engine because I had some documentation regarding engine history and after compression check and bore scope I felt the engine would go for several seasons. The boat is heavy (listed as 3200#) and under powered with the sbc 305. Without going into several pages of commentary here I suggest you check out the link in my signature.

Good luck
