OK, been reading for a couple of months, joined a month ago. Really enjoy these forums. Not to bright about texting and electronic talk. What does IMHO mean???????????

In My Humble Opinion.................. yes we could type it out, but we love to be lazy, except of course when we work on our boats. so we need to find other shortcuts in other places to maximize boat time:facepalm:

It's not an acronym like IMHO, but we have a kind of slang one we use here that I guess just kind of developed. You may have noticed how clean we are, no profanity, etc. Many of us use carp here. I love that it fits with our passion, and is pretty close to the same meaning anyway, and very close to the same spelling It's never been suggested, and I know when I first used it I hadn't really seen it before. I guess it's just obvious

Interesting you should mention a kind of "slang" used here. I've found I have my own kind of slang now that I have 16 grandchildren 15 of which can talk. Use , carp, gosh darnit, holy cow, fudge and stuff like that all the time now and I have to think quickly from time to time because I spent 9 years in the Navy and 4 in the Army. Language was not as tame there.

Is it just a really bad case of mispronunciation and the precipitous mis-spelling?

Perhaps "alright" ?

Like prolly, when people mean probably. That one is so common, even the spellchecker changes it.

Actually, very few (if any) of these are acronyms.

Radar is an acronym.

Laser is an acronym.

IMHO is not, unless you are pronouncing it as "imhoe." But I don't know anyone that has said imhoe or I M H O , in a conversation.

KISS – (Keep It Simple Stupid), is an acronym. But if you just said "kiss", without saying "kiss principle", or "Kiss-keep it simple stupid", chances are, no one would get it.

Just like DOT is not an acronym. Yes it forms a word. But if you said "I'm going to dot," no one would understand.
In conversation, you don't say "dot," you say "the D O T," and everyone knows what you mean.


Now, "scmods", (state county municipal offender data system) really is an acronym, as that is the way it is/was pronounced.

Well, I like it when someone admits that some idea is only an opinion. . .humble or honest. That leaves a discussion open for further comparison of ideas.

Too often some folks present their opinions and theories as fact, inhibiting further discussion.

Well, that is my opinion anyway.
