Face it Eeboater,everybody loves you.They all want to be with you.<br />As for the inconvenient part. Do not let it spoil all the fun.Tell your step mom that you had made plans well before they decided to surprise you and you cannot possibly back out of these plans.Your dad and brother are welcome to stay,but they should realize that for at least half the time you cannot be there.<br />Now you have put the ball back in their court,and if they are smart they will now gracefully decline.If they do not decline then it is their own fault and not yours.

EE,<br /><br />I have spent a lot of time PO'd because my in-laws always assume that they're invited. Actually, for me, this is usually a boating issue. If I don't call they're feelings are hurt. If I do, I cannot spend time with just the wife and kids, friends I choose etc. etc. etc. It turns out the only one with the problem is usually me . . .<br /><br />I used to dread Thanksgiving and Christmas, because I'd have to go to their stupid houses etc. and nobody ever checked about what my family was doing. Again, the only one fuming was yours truly <br /><br />How does Mrs. EE feel about it? Her opinion is what really matters anyway. It is her family that may get shorted, or need to make room for others. Good luck, but I guarantee that no matter what, some time in January all will be done . . .

I say stick to your original plan. Tell the step mom that you already had plans, and you are sorry that they didnt call to ask you if it was ok.The one thing that I have learned is, as important as your parents, grandparents, etc. etc. are, YOUR family,(ie wife and kids) should come before anyone else. Ive played that game, and it isnt any fun.You can never make every family member happy.

Always the same two rules...<br /><br />(1) Everyone gets treated with the respect and dignity deserving of any human being. No exceptions.<br /><br />(2) Set healthy limits, then let family and friends know immediately if/when they have exceeded those limits.

Wow... what can I say, I'm stupefied by the response! Couldn't get on the forum until right now... Many thanks to everyone who responded.<br /><br />I appreciate those who expressed wishes their fathers could join them for christmas. My parents were divorced when I was 8 years old. As a result, I saw my Dad 3 times a year til I was 18...<br /><br />So how did I resolve this situation? The money has had already been spent on the tickets so I figured there is no use in being a PITA... They are arriving next Wednesday night, so I took Thursday and Friday off. I told them that my plans for the weekend are NOT going to change. Then I proceeded to call my Mom. <br /><br />Interestingly enough, my mom has been married and divorced since she was married to my Dad. So our Christmases are pretty small. Just my Mom, brother and I. I asked my Mom if she would mind having my dad and half-brother join us on Christmas day. I made it clear to her that if she is uncomfortable with it I have no problem telling them to stay away.<br /><br />Turns out my mom has no problem with it... It may be a bit akward at first but I think it should be fine.<br /><br />The oddest part of this whole situation is that this will be the first time I'll celebrate Christmas with my Mom & Dad in 19 years...<br /><br />Sean

My family double books every occasion it seems. They think of it as a popularity contest to see where we'll go. I've asked for years for them to grow up but I realize now that things will never change. I live with it by taking turns.<br />Don't let it bother you and have a Merry Christmas.
