I'm so angry right now I need to vent...

I just got an email from my Stepmom telling me that they bought tickets for my brother and my dad to fly up and visit from Wednesday through Christmas Sunday next week. They never bothered to call and ask if it was OK. What the heck am I supposed to do? Cancel all my plans for the whole FRICKING Christmas weekend now because they decide it would be fun to come up and visit? <br /><br />So now I'm an @sshole if I don't stay with my Dad but I'm also an @sshole if I cancel on my Wifes family as well as my mothers Christmas traditions.<br /><br />I'm so fricking p*ssed right now I can't even think straight.<br /><br />ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGHHHHHHHHHHHH. <br /><br /><br />Sean

Hey buddie, don't hold back. Tell us how you really feel!<br /><br />Really I know what your feelin. Same type of thing going on here. My family would not make any plans for Christmas. After 2 months of asking they finally set a date in January. The in-laws set their date for a family get together. The next day my family changed our date to get together to that same day! They have been feuding for years to prove to each other who we like best so this adds to it. <br /><br />I work Christmas Eve and Christmas day as well as the day after, so I have a good excuse to avoid most of the drama. <br /><br />Good luck to you working this one out.

ee, Like Brax said, take a deep breath and relax. Things will work out if ya give them a chance. Family is family and 'tis the season to socialize. Unless there is bad blood between your in-laws and your family that’s coming to visit, mention to MIL the extra house guest and see where it goes from there. That is of course if it's OK with the wife. Hope it all works out for ya.

EE, fair is fair, everyone involved is 'family', so the ones who were considerate enough to talk with you and plan are the ones I would end up not breaking plans with.<br /><br />See if everyone can work together, if not then the stepmom and dad are the ones that are likely to be inconvenienced back.<br /><br />In other words what lubedude said. <br /><br />Good luck.

I really appreciate that all of my descendants are zinging Emails around and making their plans together so that nobody gets left out or double booked.<br /><br />Sounds like you got double booked, ee. Call and tell them that and ask for an alternate plan.

Maybe you should think about what BoatBuoy has said.<br /><br />Of course, we know nothing about your dad and brother, what your relationship with them is like, so on and so forth, but...I can think of a few family members myself who I would like very much to impose on me this Christmas. But they aren't around anymore.

Gosh bad problem and they are rude. on other hand I would give my left nut if my Dad could come see me, he died at 52 some 26 years ago. they are rude but worse things could happen. Good luck and hope you end up with a very merry Christmas.

The grass is always greener......<br /><br />Some people come from such dysfunctional families that they will be spending Christmas alone. <br /><br />I'm sure that you could find a diplomatic solution to the situation that won't offend anyone.<br /><br />Merry Christmas, or other winter solstice holiday.

Familys sure can mess up your christmas. My inlaws and my parents agreed that whoever we spend thanksgiving with has to let us go to the other parents for christmas, well we spent thanksgiving with the inlaws and MIL is trying to make wife feel guilty for spending christmas with my mom and dad. This is our first christmas together. both mothers can not stand to be in the same building. Wife is now trying to say lets just spend the morning with one and the afternoon with the other and i am not gonna drive 200 miles for pain in *#$ MIL when i have to work 12hour shift next day and my parents are just across town
