I thought the guy was dead. I used to go see him at a little club in North Hollywood CA, called the Palamino Club.(late '70's, early 80's) He used to play there frequently because they always accepted him back in his early days.
I just watched his 'Last man standing" concert on PBS. Apparently it was filmed in late '06. Accompanying him were a whole host of admiring big names.
For lack of a better description it was plain spiritual. Here was a 72 year old lump of flesh who should have died long ago. The minute his hands touched the keyboard and he put his lips to the microphone, he was the unmistakeable image of the Jerry Lee of old.
Mick Jager, move over. Jerry Lee still has what it takes. If you get a chance to watch it and you always liked the Killer, you'll be entranced.
He has outlasted all his peers from the Memphis days, Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, Roy Orbison.
It was good to hear the Killer!
