I'm Confused About Dockside Chat

I'm a newbie here, so what exactly are the rules?. They seem a little "gray':, JB said we ruined the post with rudeness and stupidity, tashasdaddy said "someone" was padding their posts. Meanwhile, "The Problems With Coor's Light" post goes on and on. I have been having fun here, seem's like everyone else is too. Their have been no violation's as far as I can tell so what is the problem ???? :

I'm not sure why "padding" posts is such a bad thing. I'm under the impression that this site makes money thru advertising. You'd think they'd encourage folks to post all they want to get more eyeballs looking at the screen=$$$ for iboats.

I wish someone (tashasdaddy with 40 thousand plus maybe) would explain how iboats got started. I find no fault with strict guidelines as you know as well as I do it would get nasty quick if you let too many people start mouthing off at each other. Is it my imagination or or we back to the snails pace of the spring when opening threads.

PS never could find faq relatative to above question, in fact many
times it's easier to google for an answer.

Oh well lets see what happens ya'll

I like the fact that this Iboats site is family orientated, They do keep alot of garbage out that you see at other sites, Personally I didn't read the thread, so I don't know why myself, but I am glad that they monitor the sites to keep it clean. I support Iboats and welcome new people, if there were alot of trash I probably wouldn't even be here. I can't comment on the thread beacause I didn't read it, was off for a couple of days. But I like Iboats the way it is, I don't even know what "padding" means but oh well , Just go with the flow and enjoy the Iboats site

Don't take it personally, we have all had a slap over the wrist at one time or another.

There was a time when dockside was a 'free for all', it would often get very nasty and degenerate into name calling and sometimes, threats. Some people ignored it, some didn't. The tensions would build and build until 'snap'!. The powers that be decided that enough is enough and they initiated strict rules with a family oriented lean.

if I had a penny for every time I did a google search and an Iboats thread popped up.......

here is how I see it. If I wouldnt say it around my Grandmother, im not really going to say it here. If we were in my garage having beers thats one thing, but in a public area, thats another

the problem is some do not have any idea what you are talking about.

the language you hear on the street, malls, etc. would have gotten us spanked to the inch of our lives.

the Forums was a dream of Admin http://www.iboats.com/aboutus.html

JB was the first and foremost moderator.

i boats is the most complete boating forum around. you can ask a question, and get an qualified answer. it is a place to help others, and share your knowledge. there are many specific areas to ask specific questions http://forums.iboats.com/ .

Dockside is for the general discussion, but religion, politics, and controversial subjects are not discussed, generally. the reason, these subjects tend to end up getting testy, and being closed.

here are the guidelines for all iboats forums. i you have a question, or problem with them, contact a moderator, do not post it in the open forum.

I think many of us thought the premise of the other thread where it would be mandatory that you list what area you are from was a violation of our privacy. A terrible idea. So silly side post ensued as a way to mock the idea. A way forward without attacking the thread starter and violating forum rules in the process.
Besides people would just start making up location and it would definitely increase the moderator work load trying to enforce something like that

actually most of the moderators, agree location would help in giving the correct advice. motor care is much different in Florida and Quebec.

also it has help me get in touch with members in Florida, for our annual get together.

The thread in question shouldn't have been allowed at all. We made the mistake of allowing it to proceed to nonsense, off topic posts. I didn't do a very good job of explaining why I locked it.

This rule is often overlooked:

If you have questions, comments, suggestions or complaints about the management or moderation of the site, contact iboats management. Do not start a thread about it.

If SWABBER had merely PMed or Emailed his idea to the right people there would have been no troll for petty posting.
