I pulled into a gas station with my trailer to get gas in the boat. I pull just past the pump, still at the pump though, and immediately stop and begin to back up to get the boat closer to the pump. I hear a crunch and hear the gas attendant yell WOAH. In the split second it took me to get from D to R, someone tried to pull into the pump I was at. They got as far as having their hood even with the pump and stopped there, and even though I had my eye on the mirror the whole time since I was watching how close I was to the pump I couldn't see him there since he was behind the boat. I ended up exchanging a few words with him then we both asked the gas attendant to call the police. They basically took a report and that was that.

Now I was backing and I guess technically I hit him, but he must have followed right behind me and saw what I was doing. Although maybe not because he didn't even honk. Am I responsible for this even though he pulled into my semi-occupied bay while I was backing into it? I bought a disposable camera and took pictures of where the vehicles and the damage was. My boat was clearly in the pump bay.

Luckily nothing at all happened to the boat, not sure if the prop or the lower unit touched the bumper but not a scratch on either. Was getting gas for a fishing trip so we took it right to the water and there's nothing wrong.

I know the insurance will cover it and the damage was pretty minor, a dented bumper and a small crinkle in his front fender. I was going no more than 1 mph. I have no damage so I'm not as mad as I could be....

I'm just pissed. Could have been a lot worse. Any thoughts?
