Ignition warning buzzer problems

I have a 06 Trophy Pro 2052. My ignition warning buzzer quit working. It signals when you turn the ignition on before the boat starts and then if there is low oil pressure, high water temp, low drive oil. So, I went to the dealer and got a ne w buzzer. Here is what happened. I removed the old one and installed the new one. Still did not work. There are only 2 wires. I pulled the new one out and tested it directly to to battery. It works. I then got out my multi meter and tested the wires from the boat to the where the buzzer would go. Turn the ignition on and 12v show up on the meter. So I put the buzzer back in making sure polarity is correct. Turn the ingnition on and nothing. I then checke the factory buzzer by connecting it directly to the battery and it does work.
So, 12v does come to where the buzzer is but it wont make it sound. I even went and disconnected the sensor to the drive oil to see if I could trick it into sounding. Does anybody have any suggestions? Any help would be appreciated.

Did you bother to check the ground?

alarm horns typically use a grounding circuit to activate the horn rather than closing a switch in the hot line. Oil pressure and temperature are switches in the GROUND side of the system.

Thanks silvertip, I have a hunch that my problem may be the oil sensor. I have had a small oil leak that I have not been able to track down. Sounds possible that I may fix both problems at the same time if I am lucky. Will be checking the grounds as well. Was thinking I did not need to as I was getting a 12v reading at the buzzer. Thanks again!

Your engine may have one or two oil pressure senders. The sender for the oil pressure gauge is a resistance element that changes resistance based on pressure. The oil sender for the alarm is a switch that closes based on low oil pressure which may turn on a light, sound the buzzer or both. Make sure you understand which one you are playing with.

Thanks silvertip, found the problem. It was the oil pressure switch that runs the buzzer and not the sender for the gauge. Took the lead off the pressure switch, grounded it and the buzzer sounded. Ya learn something every day. Thanks!

Thank you for at least being smart and concerned enough to fix a non-working warning device. A lot of people would just forget about it and complain like heck when they blew an engine because of lack of oil pressure.
