Hi All..

Yesterday i wanted to check the timing on my 1993 3.0L mercruiser, i went out to my boat, warmed it up, shorted the 2 white wires, and took off the kill switch, rigged the timing gun to the engine, and started shooting.. but my timing plate looks like this:

And the manual looks like this:

How should i see what tap, is what degree?

Is my only option to set my engine at TDC, and then mark the timing plate??

Kind regards
Morten

look at the manual pic and take a white out and put a mark where tdc is, trun your crank slowly and put a white line where it is then just count up from there each high and low markes are 2 degrees put a white mark at 4 and at 8 then time it, or take a litle sand paper and clean the plate the marks should be there under the dirt

a wire cup brush on the end of a cordless drill or die grinder will probably work better at cleaning that up
