I went to the boat last night to verify my switch, I counted 8-posts on the key. My key I believe is a 3 position(turn once for access, then again to start). Also you push in for choke, I have been looking and I am unable to find an 8 post key switch, I can find 6 post everywhere...could I have missed counted, or I am I just not looking in the right place for this key switch. Yes I did look here on IBOATS. Thanks

Re: Ignition Switch - Help

Well it might matter what motor you have as different type motors require different ignition switch contact combinations.

What I would do if I needed to confirm the contact to harness connections would be to use my multimeter/ audible continuity tester and work up my own schematic diagram for the switch. Then apply that to the applicable engine schematic and figure it out.

Perhaps what you are looking for is actually a 4 position switch with off on start and choke, and how many connections it actually has, and in what location and labeling can vary greatly by manufacturer.

i believe what you have is an 8 pin harness and a 4 pole key switch , there are more wires going in for other things like tach, power out for accesories, ground out etc.
