I have a 78 rude with a binnacle shifter (tnt) and seperate ignition switch but no key. On the switch front is the letter K and on the side of the switch is C3. From online parts I think it is a 77 series key. Can the specific key be identified from the numbers on the switch?

If your close to a dealer, he can give you a set of masters to try and then you can have him purchase a few for you. Or you can purchase the ignition switch with keys. Not sure if anything can be determined from the switch markings.
Good luck

I think that C3 is the key code your looking for.
Seems I was able to get a omc key that way. Try it , ask for a c3 key. dave.

Check with your local key and lock shop. Its amazing what they can do these days. I gave them 2 numbers off a lock for a storage compartment in my boat. He looked something up on his computer, pulled out a card, stuck it in a machine and it spit out my key. Simply Amazing.

did your key look like a little?
or a normal key?
the little gun keys were only used for a couple of years
if its a normal ket you could ask your dealer to borrow a master set to find proper one
or you could just change key switch

Maybe you will get lucky like I did and the new switch will have the same key as the old one! Now I keep the old ignition in a sealed bag in the hull for one of those in case moments.

Got the new iginition switch OMC today. The old switch was not OEM and not even wired correctly. The new switch wired right up and everything (choke and tach) works great. $22 bucks was well worth it. Never would of found a key and eliminates trouble shooting bad wiring.
