I have a 1981 Mariner 25 Hp (Japanese made)
I am having a ignition problem. The motor runs well until it warms up then it starts to cut out and then dies and won't restart until it has cooled down (has no fire but is getting fuel) The length of time it will run is dependent on the load you have in the boat 1 person it will run approx. 30-45 min before quiting with 3 people it will make it only about 15 min befor it dies. So I figure it is either the coil or the ignition modual, is there any way to test the specific items or is it a trial and error replacement procedure thanks Heath

Howdy, Heath.

You can check for hot failure of the parts you can get at.

With the bonnet off, crank her up on the earmuffs.

Using a hair dryer or heat gun, heat up the ignition module, then any other parts you can get at, one at a time.

This procedure is not guaranteed to locate a hot failure, but it is a lot faster and cheaper than replacing parts that may not be bad.

Red sky at night. . .
JB :)
