I have a 1998 90hp force i would like to check the timing because previous owner messed with it and i know its not right, i have retarted it alot and ajusted idle to where it runs alot smoother but i want to be sure the timing is right, i have a clymer manual it says to remove plugs and ground ignition, what it the best way to ground all 3 plugs so that no damage occurs to the cdm ignition. Any help is appreciated i have never done timing like this before by just crankin over with plugs out with a timing light..... THANX

Take a bare copper wire, wind it around each plug at the threads, take the loose end and pinch it under any convenient bolt on the motor. Done deal.

Here's another way of doing it if you feel inclined. I got tired of wrapping wire around the plugs so I threw this rig together . The copper clamp gets attached to any ground point like a bolt on the block. The blue clamp attached to the metal bar allows you to place it at any convenient spot. Inexpensive and makes it very easy to compare the spark from all plugs at the same time.
