Hell all,

I'm new to the forum. Thanks to anyone who can lend some advice.

Westerbeke genset, 4kw, gasoline. the tech manual list these ohm values for a good ignition coil. does the secondary coil rating look like a misprint? my research list ohm ratings in the 10,000 range.

Ignition coil

Primary coil resistance ohms 0.98 ? 0.1

Secondary coil resistance ohms 17.5 ? 2.6

I replaced the coil with a volkwagon coil. And unfortunatly threw the original one away.....It wasn't even the problem. The parts for this old girl are hard to find. and the supplier I did find wants $230 for an ignition coil. was hoping I could find a suitable automotive replacement.

It currently running with the "on" switch held, when released it idles down to almost dieing then reves back up then drops down again and finnally dies.

Thanks for any help. Bill

Re: ignition coil question

It sound like there should b a K after 17.5 which is line with what could be found in a good coil. 17.5K = 17,500 ohms.
