I removed the black/yellow one wire connector from the power pack. I put a volt meter dc/20 on the end of the wire connected to the ignition and read .10 vdc to ground w/ignition on and motor not running. Per other post I believe my ingnition to be shorted? I have a j110hp 1988 and my powerpack is putting out a weak spark on the stbd cylinder top. Is there a way to jump out and eliminate the switch?

That black/w yellow stripe is the kill wire dmurray. If you want to eliminate the key switch as a possible cause for your problem, disconnect the big red connector in the engine pan and apply 12V's to the starter solenoid small terminial (yellow or white can't remember) to check for spark with out the ignition switch or kill switch.

thanks for response. Is it normal to get .10dcv to the b/y wire to ground? I was under the impression that was an ignition problem.

To be honest, I've never measured the voltage on the kill wire and could not give an honest answer to what should be on it. Yes, you can run the motor with the large connector apart. Just remember, you'll have to choke the engine to shut it down.

Re: ignition bad??

I just found a burnt (shorted coil) on the overheat alarm. I disconnected the alarm and the motor ran fine without load for 45 min. I am going to replace the alarm and run it under load tomorrow afternoon. The temp was fine during a muff run.

Was this in the control box or on the engine? Just trying to get an idea of what went on. Looks like you found the problem then??

Re: ignition bad??

It was in the control box. Everytime I tried to test my alarm, it sparked. I am not totally convinced that I have found the Gremlin, but I hope so. I do not even see how it might affect the motor. I heard that the sensor could cause the motor to try and shut down?? I will try to get it on the water tomorrow (upper 60's windy, and no sun(ouch)).
