Does anyone have an electrical design for a do it yourself IGNITION ANALYZER for Evinrude OIS engines? It would be a big help.

The only thing that analyzer was good for was to set your timing staticaly. It never gave accurate readings as far as the sensor being good or bad. You can set the timing with the mtr running with a timing lite. WOT will need a test wheel or a cut down prop.

The factory or the CDI tester for the OIS ignitions are very expensive for what they do. A new "electric eye" is about $75 and is easily replaced.

Because the ignition system is so fast electronically, you can time the motor at cranking speed. Remove the plugs and hook up a spark tester. Connect your timing light to #1 wire and advance the throttle to wide open. Crank the motor over and adjust for the correct timing spec. Of course you should follow the service manual first to adjust the timing pointer so it is accurate at TDC.
