Would you choose a 135 v6 FICHT or a 130 Yamaha both engines are 2003 and both have a 3 year warranty. The FICHT is 7700$ and the Yamaha is 7900$. Im not real real concerned abot the 200$ because Im already spending that much dam$$$ in the first place. I have heard great things about both so any help will be much help. omc frank said that the FICHT was a great motor now Im just trying to get a comparison.

NIIICE FISH!!!
<>< <>< <><

Howdy CTarpontime.

This is a tough one. Here is why:

The Evinrude Ficht V6 135 engine is leading edge, computer controlled, direct injection technology. That means quieter, smoother, more efficient, cleaner.

V6 Ficht engines have a history of terrible problems BEFORE Bombardier took over and overhauled the engineering and production. Bombardier has backed the engines built since then with bulletproof warranties.

That is great, except that you may have to wait weeks in the middle of the season for your dealer to get around to your turn if you have any problems.

The Yamaha uses carburetors. Obsolete technology. It is a V4, not as smooth as a V6. More noise, more smoke, more fuel, more pollution.

BUT the Yamahas seem as reliable as wheelbarrows.

What to do?

If I couldn't stand to be out of a boat for a few weeks at a time I would buy the Yammy.

If I wanted the best overall value for my bux I would buy the Evinrude.

Good luck. :)

JB has good advice here. I have a Johnson and a Yamaha, and some summers I use the Yamaha more because that is the one that is running. It is just more bulletproof. Up here in Minnesota the season is short and an outboard can sit at the dealer for half of the season.

The 135 FICHT would be a good choice as it is a detuned 150, and should last for a long time. It has a FULL three year warranty compared to a 1 year warranty on the Yamaha, that has reduced coverage for the remaining time ( no electrical parts, no rubber parts, etc.).

The 1998 FICHTs have a terrible reputation, but the redesign to the FICHT Ram in 2000, made them good running and dependable motors. Bombardier even made them better for 2002. The new ones are so much quieter than regular 2 strokes, with no smoke or vibration.
