hi, my 25hp evinrude idles fast so as when i am trolling boat moves to fast.i tried adjusting screw on linkage that lets me turn motor handle to lower speed.when i do this motor idles slower but after about a minute motor starts to idle rough and stops.a friend of mine told me to turn carburator screws in a bit and try readjusting linkage screw again.i am a novice at this and would not want to mess things up because apart from this motor runs excellent.would this be a good way to start to try to remedy this problem. thanks in advance.

Re: idling setup

If adjusting the needle on the low speed jet is needed, assuming that it is running lean, you would have unscrew it out (counter clockwise) to rich up the fuel mixture.

Re: idling setup

This could also be due to the linkage to the timer base. RPM on these motors is a function of both fuel & timing. Best bet is to get a manual & check both.

Re: idling setup

thanks to you who have replied.you talked about timing upon closer look the screw i was adjusting on motor handle actually connects to timing base.when handle was at lowest the timing base read 0. as i would lower it idling would get slower then stall.so i now put out same question as before to remedy this.
