when my 6hp evinrude is at idle, or just above idle, no water comes out the "pee hole" on the back of the motor. is this normal or is there another place that water comes out below the surface of the water. i have not had a problem with overheating, but havent idled too much, and that was in cold water. could there be an obstruction in the coolent lines or something else. i havent replaced the water pump yet, but plan to. when i am at full throtle, water comes out the hole just fine.

the motor is a 71 fisherman model.

Re: idle waterflow

When you mention pee hole, do you mean the hole in the back of the exhaust housing just above the water line. At idle on a 6 h.p. you will see a small amount of spitting. When the pump gets weak you will see steam come out here as the engine starts to over-heat. There was no tell-tail indicator on the 71 motors.
