Re: Idle Stabilizer on 1990 Mercury
If the stabilizer is bad, the engine will stall if the idle speed drops below about 550RPM. You check it by hooking up a timing light and pull the trigger link back so the engine idles below 550RPM. You should see the timing jump up by a few degrees and the idle speed increase.
