Just wondering what's a good rpm idle for a force
1989 50hp... its 2 cylinder 2 cycled engine with a 50:1 fuel mix.
right now its idling at around 1500-2000 but that seems kind of high. if i go with lower rpms it seems not to start as easily and die at idle.

Idle should be 700-800, when engine is in water - in forward gear.

Have you checked the compression on your motor?
If not, time to do it.

Also check for a hot spark on both plugs.

And a decarb would be good idea after the compression check. then check it again after you've done the decarb.

so 1200-1500 rpms would be about right in neutral and out of the water???

In my opinion, still too high.
I would think 900 for being in neutral, and maybe 1100 for neutral and out of water.

Been a real long time since I ran a motor on muffs instead of in a tank.
