Where do I adjust the idle speed on a 1980 Mercury 115 hp. 6 cyl. inline engine. The book says to turn idle speed adjusting screw on on the stop bracket. Where si the stop bracket. I cannot find where it is in the book. I know where the idle mixture screw is but not screw on the stop bracket.

Re: idle problem

You need to first disconnect the throttle linkage so you can freely adjust the idle speed screw. There is a big lever on the port side of the motor that has the idle speed screw located on the bottom half. You will have to loosen the locknut and turn the phillips head screw clockwise to increase idle speed. Once you've got it right, you'll have to adjust the throttle cable to accommodate the new idle setting.
