Idle problem with 70hp Johnson

I have an 88' 70hp johnson that has a regular fuel pump. At idle it sounds like it is starving for gas and when I try to accelerate it is very slow and never really gets wound up. If I hit the choke with it is running it will smooth up for a couple of seconds until it begins to flood. I have checked and replaced fuel lines but I believe that it is the diaphram in the fuel pump. Does anyone have any other suggestions to try before throwing parts at it?
Thanks
Chieff

Re: Idle problem with 70hp Johnson

You should remove all 3 carburators and clean out the jets and remove the float bowls and clean the needle valves, [make sure their not sticking]
