idle on 125 merc

i've read on this post about moving the carb. screw 1.5 turns from tight. is there a problem that I needed to move my screws 3.5 turns (left), before the motor would start and stay running?

If your compression is good, it sound like its time to rebuild the carbs.

Are you sure about carb rebuild. motor runs well at idle, while moving and at top speed - 5,200rpm and 48mph.
