i have a 1984 merc 9.8 ser 6348863 on my 12' aluminum boat.i have a 2 blade 9p prop on it. with a 3 blade 8p as a spare.
i use this boat 5-8 hours a week for fishing.
i can go fishing all day and only use 1/2 a tank of fuel.
the engine starts and runs great but i seem to have trouble getting a smooth idle.( it sounds like it is missing , bucks and shakes ). manual calls for 550-750 rpm . but it wants to stall out when i leave it to idle.
the manual calls for a NGK B9HS-10 plug gap @ .040
(this is the upper electrode type )
my other engines a 1970 65hp and my 1975 20hp call for NGK BUHW-2 style (center electrode type)
the gap is the same on both types @ .040.
other than physical differences of these plugs what is the difference ?
what kind of carb cleaner should i run through it ?
i plan on a carb rebuild in the fall before i winterize and store it again.
