idle and carb question

my classic 50 (40hp) will start up and idle fine for about 15 seconds then low idles until it dies. Starting it back up typically requires choking and a little bit of cold start. Any suggestions. Also, when cleaning the carbs on this motor, I pull the carbs and really don't know what else to. I spray all over in and out with carb cleaner then compressed air. The only thing I am taking off is the bowl. What else? Also in one carb the " disk" thin on the inside ( closest to the engine) has a small bend on one edge, is this a big deal? Thanks for any help!!

Re: idle and carb question

If you are talking about the throttle shutter, I've never seen one with a bend. They are always flat. That could be your problem.
