if you find the answer let me know as i have a 04/20hp --- i also have start up, choke/fast idle problems, is your transition from choke, fast idle, to idle correct and smooth without any stall etc/

This is why they publish manuals. You can have years of experience and a masters in mechanical engineering but unless you have seen this particular engine you won't be able to tell someone exactly how to adjust the idle linkages and mixture. Go to the bottom of this web page an buy a manual for your engine. You need one. Everybody needs one (for their engine). It should be the first thing you buy after you buy the engine. It will tell you how to adjust it and if you feel inadequate for the task it will at least make you sound like you are informed about your engine when you ask a mechanic to do it for you.

Better yet, get the shop manual first;especially if you are buying used.

idle must be set at 900rpm +/- 50, in neutral, engine at normal operating temp for it to function properly - just went through it with my dealer - now am dragging a bucket to slow down.

Another solution would be to get a prop with less pitch. It'll probably cost you about $80 but it'll do the trick. Just a thought.

Bruce

I would think maybe, some still makes a troll plate the will bolt on and flip down behind the prop to help slow you down. It would be a greast investment if you need the slower dpprd often. I did that years ago on my 1976/ 9.9 2 stroke evinrude, in fact I still have it and the motor.

Re: idle adjustment on a bf15

I changed from a 9.5 pitch prop to an 8.5 pitch prop on my Nissan 18 hp 4-stroke and GAINED top end because the engine wasn't turning the rated RPM's at WOT in the first place. In addition, I can now troll the motor down to less than 1 mph when I pike fish. The prop cost me about $80 and was well worth the investment. Plus, now I have a spare prop for insurance.

Bruce
