I have a 76 Johnson 85 that hs a carb and intake from a 140. I rebuilt the carbs and stuck strictly to the manual. Once they were reinstalled I began the "sync and link"
first I sync the throttle plates, second I sync the choke plates, third I set the throttle pickup point. I was unable toto get the cam mark to align with the cam follower without actually unscrewing the cam yoke. Once I found a happy medium I connected the timing light and started it up, then I followed the manual using the warm up lever and checking the timing adjustment at idle, according to the manual 4 degrees, at 4 degrees it turning about 1300 rpm at tdc its turning 900. the thing that concerns me is first I have to run the idle screw in all the way to get 4 degrees and second at 4 degrees 1300 seems very high.
The engine is on the boat with the hose. The manual says to set the wot timing with the boat in the water tied to the slip. Its not as big a deal as I thought but yamaha is so much easier( what was evinrude thinking).
Any ideas on the the seemingly high idle.
Thanks
Keith
